Investment Capital for Social Ventures
Blue Horizons MD Jackie Waring and Senior Associate Andrew Shadrake recently completed the evaluation of Social Investment Scotland’s (SIS) ‘Investment Capital for Social Ventures’ Pilot, with the report now available.
The report and SIS’s work comes at a time when the economic impact of Scotland’s social economy, or third sector, is becoming increasingly recognised and supported by The Scottish Government, clearly demonstrated by the 37% increase in funding announced by Finance Secretary John Swinney in November 2007. Financial instruments for the sector are wide ranging, involving the private as well as the public sector, particularly where risk capital is being accessed. Scott Anderson, Chief Executive, Social Investment Scotland comments:
"We believe the project will come to be regarded as an important first step in addressing the practical issues around the delivery of a range of financial products aimed at providing social ventures with access to risk capital"
